Petition Against City Leaders
          Craven   -  11/3/2009
In one hour the New Bern Board of Alderman will have a petition in their hands asking for change.

In 2003 the board voted to give themselves health benefits for life if they had been on the board 16 years.

400 people have signed a petition asking the alderman to take back those benefits and that petition will be presented tonight.

Petitioner Terry Startsman said, "I'm just hoping that tonight we can give the alderman the opportunity to do the right thing and go out of office on a positive note as opposed to a negative note."

Alderman Dana Outlaw says the lifetime benefits will cost the city more than 200 thousand dollars. Five members of the board of alderman in 2003 will leave office next month.
