Police have released 911 recordings that contain the sounds of a gunshot and a relative pleading for ambulances to get to the scene of a quadruple murder-suicide.
In one of the recordings, a voice can be heard quietly moaning before the sound of a shot. A 911 operator tries in vain to get someone to speak.
On the second recording, a relative urges police and ambulances to get to the house. The relative says he can see blood and bodies, but he can't get inside.
In the background, a woman can be heard wailing, "I knew it. I knew it."
Authorities say William Maxwell killed his wife and two teen children before shooting himself Monday night at their Fayetteville home. Friends say Maxwell's behavior changed in the weeks before the shootings.
