A large area of rain (heavy at times) is moving from south to north across eastern NC this Thursday evening. Most of the rain is inland (on the west side of US17 from Wilmington to Richlands to LaGrange to Snow Hill to Greenville) but there are some rain showers blowing in off the ocean along the coast. Another large area of rain/isolated thunderstorms is moving northward from SC and will move from south to north across our area this evening. Some spots could get an inch and a half of rainfall with these two areas of rain. The rain should taper off late tonight, but we remain cloudy with patchy dense fog developing late tonight. Overnight low temps will be in the middle 50s with southeast winds at 5-15 mph.

Friday should be mostly cloudy. You may see an interval of two of sun popping through the clouds during the morning but then it clouds back up. There will likely be some scattered showers around during the morning, but most areas should be rain free until the afternoon when another round of rain and thunderstorms moves up from the south. Again, some of this rain could be heavy. High temps will be in the upper 60s as winds from the southeast increase to 10-20 mph.

Rain and thunderstorms will be likely Friday night with the potential for heavy rain and for some of the thunderstorms to produce some hail and gusty winds during the overnight into early Saturday morning. Low temps will be in the middle 50s.

Saturday starts with rain and thunderstorms still moving from south to north across our area, but the rain/storms should begin moving north of us and taper off from south to north during the afternoon. In fact, by late Saturday afternoon we could see a little sunshine. High temps in the low 70s.

We try to clear out Saturday night, but I'm afraid there will be a fair amount of moisture wrapping around the back side of the low pressure as it moves north away from us. That means that clouds will be blowing across and that we could see some isolated showers/sprinkles near the coast and over our northern counties overnight. Low temps will drop to the upper 40s.

Sunday will also see some of that wrap around moisture that will produce clouds that blow across the sunshine and could spit out a quick shower or sprinkle, but no widespread rain is expected Sunday. It will be cooler with highs in the lower 60s.
